Listen to the Lord

I grew up with the stories of when my parents took the older kids on an all summer long road trip from San Diego to the East coast and back.  We always wanted to go on a similar trip.  There was a large framed map that showed the route they took and had small mementos that hung in the hallway.  I would look at it and dream of a similar adventure.  One year it was decided that we were going to take a similar trip.  We were so excited.  We knew that we would need to save money to do so but other than that we were sure that it would happen.  One day we sat down as a family (it was probably around the kitchen table) and Dad said he had news to share.  He recounted the story of Lehi and how the Lord had told them to leave Jerusalem and so they did.  He reminded us that they had acted on faith and that at the time they didn't exactly know why they had to leave.  Dad said that the Lord had told him that we shouldn't go on that trip.  He said he didn't understand why we were not supposed to go but that we were going to be obedient to the prompting of the Spirit.  We cancelled our much anticipated trip.  I remember being disappointed.  We never did know why.  I knew that my Dad listened and obeyed the voice of the Lord.
